Today (24), the recommended rates for the impending change to the electricity tariff for the month of July were given to the parliament by Kanchana Wijesekera, the minister of power and energy.

The rate charged for the first 30 household units will be decreased by Rs. 05 in accordance with the most recent change to the electricity pricing. The revised tariff for one electrical unit in that category will thus be Rs. 25, as a result.

The set fee for the first 30 units used would be decreased to Rs. 250 in the interim. For this category, the current fixed fee is Rs. 400.

1,744,000 families will receive the pertinent benefit, according to Minister Wijesekera, who noted that the first group would receive a minimum of 23% alleviation.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the rate per unit for units used between 31 and 60 would be cut by 9%, while the fee for units consumed 0 to 60 will be decreased by Rs. 7%.

The Minister also noted that starting in July, the power prices for 10,692 religious facilities that use between 31 and 60 units per month will be decreased by 7% and by 23% for 15,646 religious facilities that use 0 to 30 units per month.
