The government, according to Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardene, is unable to cover the whole cost of the “Sisu Seriya” school bus service.

Minister Gunawardene stressed that the government would need to collect a specific amount from the parents while participating in the press conference for the Cabinet that was conducted this morning (May 30).

The decision was made in light of the nation’s present economic circumstances, the minister continued.

Accordingly, 70% of the cost of the “Sisu Seriya” school bus service would be covered by the government, with the other 30% coming from the parents, according to Gunawardene.

According to the minister, it has also been determined to offer the service without charge to children of low-income households who get subsidies and whose parents are unable to pay the fees.

Minister Gunawardene said that the Sisu Seriya school bus service will have to be discontinued if the government is unable to recoup at least 30% of the cost from parents.
