According to Dr. Deepal Perera, a consultant paediatrician at the hospital, there have been four instances of measles identified at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.

Dr. Perera told the media yesterday that as of Monday (10), 12 youngsters had measles symptoms, while four had been diagnosed with the illness.

“High fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes are all measles symptoms. Additionally, it contains a skin rash known as the Measles rash, he added.

Dr. Perera went on to say that among those exhibiting symptoms of the illness are kids who did not receive the MMR vaccine for the measles.

“Children receive the MMR vaccine free of charge at nine months and three years old. For the sake of their children’s health and safety, we advise parents to get them these vaccinations,” he continued.

Dr. Deepal Perera cautioned that there has been a sharp rise in measles cases in recent days and encouraged parents to exercise extreme caution because it could cause serious health issues for their children.

In order to avoid such health concerns, he also exhorted parents to ensure that their children receive the MMR vaccine for measles.
