At a news conference conducted at the Presidential Media Centre (16), State Minister of Mass Media Shantha Bandara stated that a new postal act will be brought to The Parliament within this year to hasten the modernization process of the Postal Department.
The State Minister continued by stating that a joint public-private partnership will be formed to carry out the modernisation process at a cost of Rs. 10 billion and that the Postal Department will not be privatised at any cost.
He continued, “Through the Department’s digitization, it is anticipated that the Postal Department will become a profitable institution within the next two years.”
The State Minister added that the Postal Department’s loss will be cut by Rs. 4,000,000,000 by the end of 2023.
