The next World Health Organisation (WHO) meeting should address the issue of Sri Lankan doctors being hired by foreign countries, according to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal.
The President suggested in a meeting with the Ministry of Health that compensation be sought from other countries for the hiring of Sri Lankan physicians.
The President emphasised that as doctors leave nations like the United Kingdom (UK), those nations are now forced to hire medical professionals from Sri Lanka.
He added that the WHO should be notified about the fact that some other foreign countries are employing Sri Lankan doctors in a similar way.
