According to reports, a training plane that took off from Trincomalee’s China Bay Airport crashed, killing both the pilot and the student.
A PT6 aircraft used to educate pilots at the No. 1 Flying Training Wing of the SLAF Academy China Bay took off from the China Bay runway this morning (07) for an air test, according to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).
According to the SLAF Director of Media, Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe, the aircraft in issue had crashed at roughly 11.27 a.m. near the SLAF Camp in China Bay, killing both of the officers who were on board.
A special inquiry committee has already been formed by SLAF Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa to conduct more inquiries into the tragedy, he continued.
