Drinking water shortages in 12 districts – DMC

According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), 12 districts on the island are currently experiencing a drinking water deficit as a result of the current dry weather.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Director General of the DMC, emphasised that the problem has so far had an impact on almost 48,000 families.

Using the bowsers connected to the Disaster Management Centre, he said, “arrangements are being made to distribute drinking water to nearly 156,000 affected individuals in 40 Divisional Secretariat Divisions within these 12 districts.”

Mr. Ranasinghe stated that relevant organisations such the Department of Forest Conservation and Wildlife Department are working to give water through bowsers. He also mentioned that the animals have been impacted by the problem.
