The Norochcholai Coal Power Plant, which produces 270 megawatts of power from its three units, experienced a breakdown early today morning (Aug. 8).

The power plant’s Unit 3 has been out of commission since June 13 due to scheduled significant overhaul maintenance work.

As a result, the power plant’s single functioning unit is currently adding 300 megawatts of new electricity to the national grid.

Kanchana Wijesekera, the minister of power and energy, earlier today stated that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has guaranteed a continuous supply of electricity island-wide.
