On September 19, elections for the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) are expected to take place, allowing Sri Lanka to take part in World Cup qualifiers organised by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
The inclusion of “Sri Lanka” in the official World Cup draw last month was accepted by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on the severe condition that the FFSL hold its election at least 10 days before the World Cup match planned for October 12 and 17.
In the meantime, on July 25, Roshan Ranasinghe, the minister of sports and youth affairs, created a three-person committee to organise and conduct the FFSL elections.
