Newly constructed Polpitiya-Hambantota transmission line connected to national grid

Following the conclusion of its preliminary work, the recently built Polpitiya-Hambantota 220kV transmission line has been linked to the national grid.

According to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the new grid substation in Hambantota was also turned on on Thursday, August 24.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) invested USD 55 million in the project to build the Polpitiya-Hambantota 220kV transmission line and Hambantota new grid substation.

According to the state-owned utility, this 150 km transmission line from Ambagamuwa to Hambantota passes via 11 Divisional Secretariats and has a 580 MVA line capacity.
