Susil Premajayantha, the minister of education, said that a special cabinet paper will be presented in order to fill the open graduate teaching positions.
The Minister stated in the parliament today (24), “Therefore, the relevant cabinet paper will be prepared so as to authorise the provincial councils to fill the vacancies created due to the retirement of teachers and the teachers who have left the service.”
He added that the provincial councils have already been given permission to hire 5,400 recent graduates as graduate teachers for the streams of mathematics, science, and technology.
The minister also said that there have been a number of challenges in trying to fill the approximately 32,000 teacher posts that are now open.
