According to MP Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, the head of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus, the bill establishing a National Commission for Women would be presented to the house very soon.

Additionally, two bills on women’s empowerment and gender equality are prepared to be introduced in parliament.

On September 5, she made these comments in a special online conversation with Ms. Vanushi Walters, a New Zealand parliamentarian of Sri Lankan descent.

Dr. Fernandopulle went on to say that President Ranil Wickremesinghe presently holds the office of Minister of Women, Child Affairs, and Social Empowerment and that he is very interested in fighting for the advancement of women and children in Sri Lanka.
