According to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), more than 1,000 cases of dengue have been documented in the days that have passed so far in September.
Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne, Director of the NDCU, emphasised that due to the persistent rainfall, there is a potential of high dengue mosquito population in specific places.
“Dengue cases have been documented in about 63,000 instances nationwide so far in 2023. The preceding 12 days in September have seen the identification of about 1,000 dengue patients.
The NDCU claims that there have been less dengue cases recorded each day over time.
“From a daily average of over 300, there are currently only 100 patients recorded. It’s a positive trend, according to Dr. Ariyaratne.
