In November, the government will deliver to Parliament the appropriations bill for the fiscal year 2024.
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the state’s minister of finance, said that the 2024 budget address will start on November 13, 2023.
He added that the debate over the second reading of the appropriations bill will last from November 14 to November 21, and that the vote would follow on November 21.
The State Minister further stated that the discussion on the third reading would take place from November 22 to December 13.
The Cabinet of Ministers declared earlier today that the submission of the Appropriation Bill for the year 2024 to Parliament has received approval.
At their meeting in July 2023, the Cabinet reportedly gave the go-ahead to draught the bill of appropriations for the fiscal year 2024.
The draught appropriation bill for the fiscal year 2024 prepared by the Legal Draughtsman was then approved by the Attorney General.
As the Minister of Finance, President Ranil Wickremesinghe had proposed to the Cabinet that the draught bill be published in the government gazette notification and then be introduced to the Parliament for approval.
The Cabinet agreed to take the President’s suggestion under consideration and gave the go-ahead to send the 2024 spending bill to Parliament for approval.
