Following the Western Province’s suspension due to computer system upgrades, the issuing of vehicle revenue licences will also be temporarily suspended in the Southern Province.

Sumith Alahakoon, the chief secretary of the Southern Province, declared in a statement that the revenue licences will be halted starting tomorrow (Sept. 27) and lasting through October 2.

As a result, starting October 2, 2023, the Southern Province branch of the Motor Traffic Department and all regional offices will resume issuing vehicle revenue licences.

Until midnight on October 6, 2023, the online issuing of vehicle revenue licences has been temporarily suspended. This suspension began on Sunday, September 24, at midnight.

In order to lessen the inconvenience to car owners, it has also been decided not to impose late fees for revenue licences that expire between today (October 27) and October 6.

Additionally, starting tomorrow (September 27) and lasting through October 2nd, the Central Province will temporarily prohibit the issuance of vehicle revenue licences.
