At the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, Sri Lanka Customs seized a stock of gold products, including gold biscuits worth at Rs. 123 million.
The gold was reportedly discovered in the custody of five people, including four ladies, who had travelled to the United Arab Emirates from Dubai.
It was discovered that the suspects who were seized by Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit officials had attempted to smuggle in 06 gold biscuits and jewels.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, one woman landed early this morning on a SriLankan Airlines flight, while four ladies and the guy arrived on a FlyDubai flight.
It was discovered that the party had hid the gold objects in their bodies and hand luggage.
The accused have been identified as Colombo locals who routinely travel abroad for business.
The incident is the subject of investigations by Sri Lanka Customs’ Narcotics Control Unit.
