The former captain of Sri Lanka and legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara was named the new chair of the world cricket committee by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Monday. Mark Nicholas, a former Hampshire captain who is now a broadcaster, was also touted as the club’s new president.
Sangakkara, who had been the MCC’s President since 2021, will now take over for Mike Gatting, the former captain of England, who held the position of Chair of the World Cricket Committee for six years. The committee also includes legendary cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Heather Knight, Justin Langer, Eoin Morgan, and Graeme Smith.
