Two arrested with foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 12 million

In the wee hours of October 2, Sri Lanka Customs detained two people for allegedly trying to smuggle over 50,000 cigarettes made abroad.

The shipment of 53,200 cigarettes is estimated to be valued roughly Rs. 12.6 million, according to Seevali Arukgoda, spokesman for Sri Lanka Customs.

The pair, who were described as Colombo residents, were forced to pay Rs. 200,000 each when they arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake at 1:10 a.m. today morning on a Fly Dubai flight.
