Promotions for over 1,800 army personnel to mark 74th anniversary

In honour of the 74th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army today, a record 1,565 Other Ranks of the Army (Regular Force and Volunteer Force) and a total of 314 Officers of the Sri Lanka Army (Regular and Volunteer Force) have been promoted to their respective next ranks.

The promotions were made on the advice of the Ministry of Defence and Army Commander, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

As a result, in the category of officers, 12 Colonels, 37 Lieutenant Colonels, 41 Majors, 50 Captains, 84 Lieutenants, and 83 Second Lieutenants have all been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (Regular Force & Volunteer Force) from the rank of Brigadier. Additionally, 7 Brigadiers have been promoted to the rank of Major General.

A total of 83 Warrant Officers-II to Warrant Officer-I, 183 Staff Sergeants to Warrant Officer-II, 263 Sergeants to Staff Sergeant, 414 Corporals to Sergeant, 374 Lance Corporals to Corporal, and 248 Privates to Lance Corporal (Regular Force and Volunteer Force) were promoted in the category of Other Ranks.

Major Generals D.A. Amarasekara, R. Elvitigala, I.H.M.R.K. Herath, W.M.P.M. Wijesooriya, W.P. Kariyawasam, K.M.P.S.B. Kulatunga, and H.H.K.S.S. Hewage are among the seven Senior Brigadiers who were promoted to the two-star Major General rank in the Army.
