As revealed by the President in a recent interview with German media, Deutsche Welle, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference has requested that President Ranil Wickremesinghe give it copies of the findings produced by several international intelligence services on the 2019 Easter attacks.
Despite earlier claims that ISIS was responsible for the attacks, the President revealed during the exclusive interview that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has ruled out outside involvement in its report, suggesting that it may have been an internal matter without the involvement of foreign parties.
“We had the FBI, the British Police, Australians, Chinese, Indians, and Pakistanis, among others. What are these allegations, if those secret services have made reports about them? He continued, “The Sri Lankan government has no international inquiries.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference commented on the President’s statement and asked the President to give the institution copies of the aforementioned reports.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka reaffirmed that Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, was an essential and fundamental part of the organisation.
The statement was given in response to President Wickremesinghe’s remarks on Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith during the interview, in which he stated that he is only dealing with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and not with the Cardinal.
The comments were expressed by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference in a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
