Regarding the continuous escalation of violence and military action in Gaza, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have expressed their deep concern, stressing that it has led in numerous innocent civilian deaths and injuries as well as a dire humanitarian situation.

The issues came up during a conversation between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday (Oct. 17), which took place outside of the international summit “One Belt, One Road” in China.

According to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, the two presidents demanded an early end to the fighting in a joint statement in order to protect more civilians.

The establishment of a humanitarian corridor was also demanded in order to provide food, water, and medical supplies to Gazans who are under blockade.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of finding a political solution to the ongoing situation in Gaza and made a plea to all parties involved to try to negotiate a two-state solution as a means of resolving the issue.

The two leaders discussed the crucial events taking place in the Gaza Strip and came to an agreement to release the joint statement, which reflects their shared opinion on the subject.

While two Sri Lankan ladies are claimed to have been kidnapped close to the Israel-Jordan border and one male has apparently been injured so far in the ongoing violence between Israel and Palestine, two Sri Lankan women have been verified dead in Israel.

Today marks day 11 of the battle between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, as the Israeli army is still bombing the Gaza Strip. Over 1,400 Israelis also lost their lives in the conflict, while Israeli soldiers killed at least 2,848 Palestinians, including 750 children.

Concerns about a wider regional confrontation have grown as a result of the recent constant exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon as a result of the rising violence between Israel and Palestine.
