The multi-day fishing trawler that was confiscated on the open seas off the island had more than 225 kilogrammes of heroin, according to the Sri Lanka Navy.
It was revealed on Monday (Oct. 23) that naval officers had stopped a multi-day fishing trawler that was hauling a significant amount of drugs.
The navy launched a special operation after receiving information from the State Information Service (SIS), which led to the interception.
The five people on board the captured trawler were taken ashore at the Port of Colombo for further proceedings.
The most recent discovery happened the day after the navy seized a local multi-day fishing trawler in the open seas west of Galle with more than 212kg of heroin and “Ice” (crystal methamphetamine) worth more than Rs. 4,000 million.
On Sunday (Oct. 22), upon their escorted arrival at the Dondra fishing harbour, 160 packets of heroin totaling 180 kg and 800 g and 28 packages of crystal methamphetamine totaling 31 kg and 550 g were found after a thorough check.
