Under their agenda for economic and social development, the Japanese government has committed to donate JPY 200 million to help Sri Lanka’s fisheries industry grow.

As a result, the grant, which is estimated to be worth about Rs. 435 million, will likely be used to buy ice-making equipment, digital scales, fishing nets, and deep freezers for the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources as well as deep freezer-equipped tractors for the National Aquaculture Development Authority and Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation.

By building freezer facilities and providing cutting-edge equipment, the grant intends to strengthen the fishing sector and raise the level of living for the fishing villages in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
