Concerns over the events that transpired on October 24, during the teacher-principal protest in Pelawatte, have been voiced by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry expressed its concerns about the police’s use of tear gas and water cannons to try to disperse the teachers and principals who were protesting, emphasising that the protesters were only being treated unfairly because they were attempting to find answers for the disparities and problems in the nation’s educational system.
The Ministry therefore conveyed their apologies in this respect and added that it was regrettable that the occurrence happened when the Education Minister was leaving Sri Lanka for a conference.
