To commemorate Founder Day and recognise its 27th anniversary, the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) threw an open-day event.

The October 24–25, 2023, event was a huge success, drawing people from all around the nation—nearly 150,000 in total.

Thanks to the audacious effort of the late MHM. Ashraff, leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, SEUSL was founded in 1995 against the backdrop of the civil war that tore through the country’s east and north.

With the highest attendance of any university open day in Sri Lanka, the SEUSL open day created history. The University’s six faculties, library, physical education department, and landscaping and maintenance division all put together a variety of programmes and activities during the open day. Among other things, it featured student-presented cultural programmes, business and book fairs, sporting events, and exhibits of recent inventions and developments. Local schoolchildren attended the event in large numbers and took an active part. Every school kid received a hearty welcome and had the chance to participate in artistic events.
