The Epidemiology Unit reports that there have been more than 68,000 cases of dengue fever reported in 2023.
As of October 30, 2023, 68,114 cases have been reported; the Colombo district accounted for 14,401 of the total number of cases.
The greatest number of cases, over 32,000, have been reported in the Western Province.
3,631 dengue cases have also been reported for the month of October.
Meanwhile, since January 2023, 39 fatalities have been reported in total.
Health professionals predict that the current wet weather will lead to a rise in dengue cases.
In this regard, individuals are advised to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and maintain clean surroundings in order to prevent dengue.
