Minister Bandula Gunawardena disclosed that an Extraordinary Gazette notification designating postal services as an essential service is scheduled to be released this evening, November 8.
The Minister consequently declared that he has previously filed a request in this respect.
The United Postal Trade Unions’ Front launched a two-day symbolic strike earlier today in opposition to the government’s efforts to sell the postal department’s assets.
Chinthaka Bandara, its co-convener, stated that the government need to give up on its intentions to sell the post offices in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya.
