President Ranil Wickremesinghe suggested allocating Rs. 1.5 billion from the following year’s budget for the advancement of school cricket and the provision of essential facilities for provincial cricket players during his 2024 budget speech.
According to Wickremesinghe, provinces and schools with the fewest facilities will have preference when allocating this funding.
The President emphasised, “We know that Sri Lankan cricket is currently facing an institutional crisis and a shortage of talent,” as he presented the pertinent budget request.
