President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Rs. 2 billion had been set aside from the 2024 Budget to resettle people who had been uprooted by the violence between the Northern and Eastern provinces.
In this connection, the Head of State stated during his 2024 Budget speech in Parliament this afternoon (November 13, 2018) that “some families are still homeless in those areas, even though 14 years have passed since the end of internal conflict in the North and Eastern provinces.”
Additionally, President Wickremesinghe suggested allocating an additional Rs. 500 million to expedite the housing programme and thereby offer crucial relief to the families who continue to be homeless.
