The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) claims that through the 2024 Budget, the government has not made any of the suggestions that were previously negotiated and approved with their union.
Dr. Haritha Aluthge, the secretary of the GMOA, stated during a press briefing this morning (14), that they are particularly interested in the government’s policies towards physicians.
“This budget shows a significant discrepancy between the promises made to us by the government and what was actually read out.” Even the authorities are unable to provide a suitable explanation for that gap.
“We anticipate hearing from the authorities in the coming days with a response to this. During the next two to three days, we plan to wait patiently for the authorities’ reaction.
He said that the GMOA Central Committee will convene and deliberate on next steps after taking the government’s answer into account.
In light of this, S.B. Mediwatta, the Chief Secretary of the All Ceylon Nurses’ Association, urged in an interview with reporters that all personnel in the health sector receive pay increases starting on January 1, 2024.
