A grant of LKR 770 million has been given by the Japanese government to support the meteorological and fisheries sectors of Sri Lanka.

Consequently, JPY 160 million (about LKR 335 million) in grant assistance has been allocated to the Project for the Establishment of Doppler Weather Radar Network in Sri Lanka.

For the same project, the Japanese government awarded approximately LKR 3.4 billion through JICA in 2017. This award was intended to improve weather forecasts and information distributed by the Department of Meteorology in order to effectively reduce disasters caused by hazardous meteorological phenomena.
