The island-wide strike initiated by 72 health sector trade unions continued for a second consecutive day today (Feb.02).

The President of the Paramedical Services Front (PMSF), Upul Rohana, stated that a final decision on the strike’s continuation will be made following discussions with trade union representatives.

The strike, prompted by the government’s perceived lack of response to allowance-related concerns, saw doctors’ and nurses’ unions abstaining, labeling it a government conspiracy.

Tri-force personnel were deployed to maintain essential medical services in response to the strike.

The ongoing dispute involves the government’s decision to double the DAT allowance for doctors, subsequently temporarily halting it due to alleged insufficient funds.
