The United States pledges to support Sri Lanka’s sovereignty, as affirmed by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu.
Addressing the US Institute of Peace (USIP) on the Indo-Pacific strategy, Lu stated that assistance will involve providing patrol boats and aircraft to the nation.
Lu emphasized, “The US Government will supply patrol boats to the Sri Lankan Military, and we are poised to deliver a King Aircraft this year for coastal border patrols.”
Additionally, Lu highlighted the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) initiative, which aims to furnish real-time commercial satellite data to countries across the broader region, including South Asia. He emphasized its transformative potential in addressing piracy, drug trafficking, and illegal fishing.
Praising Sri Lanka’s recent economic recovery progress, Lu acknowledged the nation’s historic resurgence with collaborative support from various countries.
