Sri Lanka Team Returns Home Victorious with 40 Medals at SASA Championships

Sri Lanka’s national athletics team arrived home in the early hours of Tuesday (28) following a stellar performance at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships held in Ranchi, India.

Competing from October 24 to 26, the Sri Lankan athletes clinched an impressive 40 medals — 16 gold, 14 silver, and 10 bronze — securing the overall runner-up position among participating South Asian nations.

The triumphant contingent returned via Indigo Airlines flight 6E-1171, touching down at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, at 2:10 a.m. after traveling from Chennai.

The athletes received a warm and celebratory welcome upon arrival, with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage, representatives from the tri-forces’ sports divisions, school teachers, and proud family members present to greet them.
