Prince Andrew has been stripped of his “prince” title and ordered to vacate his Windsor mansion, Royal Lodge, following renewed scrutiny over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Buckingham Palace announced that the King’s brother will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and confirmed that his lease on Royal Lodge has been terminated. He will move to private accommodation at Sandringham Estate.
The decision follows the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, which repeated allegations that she was forced to have sex with Andrew as a teenager — claims he continues to deny. Giuffre’s family said she “brought down a British prince with her truth and courage.”
The Palace said the move reflects the King’s commitment to supporting victims of “any and all forms of abuse.” UK officials reportedly backed the decision.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy described the step as a “powerful message to victims of grooming and sex offences.”
The scandal, reignited by newly surfaced 2011 emails between Andrew and Epstein, has intensified public pressure on the Royal Family to distance itself from the disgraced royal.
