Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra met with South Korea’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eui-hae Cecilia Chung at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul for comprehensive bilateral discussions.

The meeting focused on strengthening economic cooperation, expanding foreign employment opportunities, enhancing development collaboration, and deepening defence ties. Discussions also covered Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic recovery efforts, including progress on debt restructuring.

Deputy Minister Hemachandra expressed appreciation for South Korea’s timely assistance following Cyclone Ditwah and sought continued support under the government’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative.

Both sides highlighted the growing cultural affinity between the two countries, noting the strong engagement of Sri Lankan youth with Korean culture, which has helped strengthen people-to-people connections.

With Sri Lanka and South Korea set to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, the two deputy ministers agreed to commemorate the milestone through meaningful initiatives, including high-level visits and enhanced institutional engagement.

The talks reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to further strengthen the Sri Lanka–South Korea partnership in the years ahead.
