At least 66 people have been confirmed dead following a military plane crash in southern Colombia, marking one of the country’s worst recent aviation disasters.
The حادث involved a Lockheed C-130 Hercules operated by the Colombian Air Force, which was carrying 125 personnel, including passengers and crew. The aircraft crashed just minutes after taking off from Puerto Leguízamo in the Putumayo department.
Authorities said the aircraft went down in a jungle area a few kilometers from the departure airport and was largely destroyed by the impact and subsequent fire.
The death toll rose throughout the day as rescue operations continued, with dozens also reported injured—many in critical condition. Survivors were transported to nearby medical facilities, with some transferred to hospitals in other cities due to limited local capacity.
Rescue teams worked under difficult conditions for several hours to recover bodies and evacuate the injured, as investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to begin.
