Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha on Monday (01) visited the restored Northern Railway line, which was rehabilitated through a USD 5 million grant provided by India.

The High Commissioner stated that the project is part of a broader USD 450 million reconstruction assistance package extended by India following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

“Restoring connectivity, accelerating recovery!” Jha said in a post on X, highlighting the significance of the project in rebuilding critical infrastructure.

The Northern Railway line, which serves as a key transport link connecting Jaffna and Kankesanthurai with the rest of Sri Lanka, suffered extensive damage during Cyclone Ditwah. Five bridges along the route were severely affected, disrupting rail services and connectivity in the region.

The restoration project is expected to strengthen transportation links and support ongoing recovery efforts in Northern Sri Lanka.
