Sri Lanka will provide US$1 million in humanitarian assistance to Nepal following devastating floods and landslides that have claimed lives, displaced communities and caused widespread destruction.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka has directed the government to make the financial contribution to support Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian and relief operations.
President Dissanayaka expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and suffering caused by the disaster, extending condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, particularly to families who have lost loved ones.
Highlighting the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Nepal, the President said the assistance would help provide immediate relief and humanitarian support to communities affected by the floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath spoke with his Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal on Thursday, conveying Sri Lanka’s condolences, solidarity and support.
The Foreign Ministry said Sri Lanka would remain closely engaged with Nepal and continue to explore further avenues to support relief and recovery efforts.
