Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Uva, Eastern and Central provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, after 2.00 p.m. today (29), according to the Department of Meteorology.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is also possible in some areas.
A few showers may occur in coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
The Meteorology Department has advised the public to take necessary precautions against possible damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers are expected at a few locations in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
During the evening or night, showers or thundershowers may also develop in the sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
Winds are expected to be south-westerly at speeds of 25–35 kmph. Wind speeds may temporarily increase to 45–50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These sea areas may become fairly rough at times.
The Department further warned that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas could occur during thundershowers.
