Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody at Welikada Prison, has been admitted to the Cardiology Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
The development comes after the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court rejected an anticipatory bail application filed by Rajapaksa earlier today (October 12), seeking an order to prevent her arrest.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on October 7, 2026.
Following her arrest, she was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until October 13.
Her arrest is linked to an investigation into allegations that Rs. 10 million was obtained from the National Savings Bank (NSB) through the Siriliya Saviya organisation.
The funds were allegedly intended to purchase a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the transaction and the alleged use of the funds.
The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the case is yet to be concluded.
