UPFA Gen. Sec. Stresses MS will be SLFP Presidential candidate

NEWSNOW | COLOMBO – The General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says President Maithripala will be the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s Presidential candidate for 2020.

He told this expressing views to the media following a meeting with the party supporters in Moneragala yesterday (May 06).

He also said that the Ministers who resigned from the government might not attend SLFP’s May Day rally to be held in Batticaloa this afternoon.

It will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Meanwhile, W. D. J. Seneviratne, S.B. Dissanayake and Dayasiri Jayasekera who resigned from the Unity Government recently confirmed that they will participate in the SLFP May Day rally.

However, former Ministers, Chandima Weerakkody, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana and former Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala did not respond.

The Joint Opposition led by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will hold its May Day rally at Samanala Grounds in Galle.

MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that the rally will be launched under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at 3 pm.
