President says it is unethical to use war heroes to get political mileage

NEWS NOW | COLOMBO – President Maithripala Sirisena says if a certain political party uses war heroes to gain their political mileage, it is unethical.

The President made these remarks unveiling the ‘Wayamba Rana Abhiman’ War Heroes’ monument in Kurunegala, yesterday (May 11).

The new monument was established to replace the previous war heroes’ monument which was removed due to the Kurunegala- Dambulla Main Road Development Project.

This war memorial displays all the names of the war heroes of the North-Western Province who sacrificed their lives to protect the motherland.

The entire project has been completed at a cost of 27 million rupees by the Army’s Engineering Services Corps.

President Sirisena addressing the gathering further said that the present government has not work to undermine the war heroes and always tries to ensure their rights are protected considering their services to the nation.

The President while rejecting the accusations against the government regarding the war heroes, said that all these statements are meant to make the government uncomfortable.

Even though the government is accused of soldier victimization the real soldier victimization occurred during the past régime, the President said.
