Veteran Sri Lankan singer Christopher Paul passes away

Christopher Paul, a legendary vocalist from Sri Lanka, passed away today (May 18).

The veteran performer was 87 years old when he passed away, per family sources.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Christopher Paul was one of Sri Lanka’s most popular stars.

Some of his well-known singles, including “Ela Dola Ganga,” “Katuroda Gammane,” “Wathura Nala,” “Rosa Malak dutuwama,” “Menika Menika,” “Veena vile meda olu male,” and “Muthu bello,” are still played on radio stations and covered by newer artists.

For more than 40 years, Christopher was a popular performer who was frequently asked to sing at both indoor and outdoor performances. For concerts, he has traveled to numerous foreign nations.

The Department of Cultural Affairs organized a solo event called “Christo 82” in Colombo in 2018 as recognition for his contributions to music, during which he performed twenty-five songs.
