The national cricket governing body has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board due to significant influence from the government in its operations.
The punishment was imposed against the backdrop of accusations made by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe regarding the wrongdoing of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) executives.
Even if the international cricket body’s decision seemed sudden, ESPNcricinfo stated that “it is understood that SLC had asked the ICC board to take this extreme step.”
