The Palestinian national football team played against South Africa’s Invitation XI team in a solidarity match titled the “Freedom Cup” at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday.
Thousands in attendance watched Palestine beat South Africa 1-0 in a match which South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said was being held to “signify our support as the people of South Africa for the struggle of the Palestinians”.
“The majority of people in this country and the government of South Africa… support the people of Palestine,” he told the crowd.
