Vietnam’s Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Minh Hoan Le, paid a visit to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at Temple Trees in Colombo on Wednesday (Feb. 21).
During their meeting, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation, particularly in rural development and social empowerment, as stated by the PM’s Office.
The Vietnamese Minister expressed gratitude to Sri Lanka for its support during Vietnam’s liberation movement. He noted that Sri Lanka was among the first countries to recognize Vietnam immediately following its independence and unification.
Prime Minister Gunawardena commended Vietnam for its rapid economic progress post-independence, following a courageous struggle for freedom. He lauded Vietnam’s innovative strategies in attracting foreign investment and sought to learn from their experience to modernize Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.
Minister Minh Hoan Le agreed to the Prime Minister’s request, affirming Vietnam’s special regard for Sri Lanka and offering expertise in digital agriculture and smart farming.
He emphasized the shared Buddhist and socialist backgrounds of both nations, highlighting their mutual commitment to people-centered development, particularly in rural upliftment through agricultural advancement.
The high-level Vietnamese delegation included Ambassador Ho Thi Thanh Truc, along with Director Generals Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Le Trung Quan, Nguyen Nhu Cuong, Huynh Tan Dat, and Le Duc Thinh.
