In a recent meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Richard Verma, the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources from the United States, lauded Sri Lanka’s efforts to revitalize its economy. According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), Verma expressed his appreciation for the progress made by the Sri Lankan Government in implementing economic reforms during his visit.
President Wickremesinghe briefed Verma on the advancements in the debt restructuring process and highlighted various key economic reform initiatives, notably the agriculture modernization program.
In discussions concerning global security matters, Deputy Secretary Verma expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan Government for its support in the ongoing naval operations in the Red Sea. President Wickremesinghe reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to ensuring Freedom of Navigation in the Indian Ocean and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia’s position on the Houthi rebels.
The meeting underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka in addressing economic challenges and promoting regional security.
