A committee of seven members headed by former Appellate Court Judge MM Abdul Gaffoor has been appointed to draft a constitution for the Islamic Unity Forum, which was formed to create an environment for working together in social welfare matters and mutual understanding among the Islamic organizations operating in Sri Lanka.
The committee was appointed at a meeting attended by leaders and representatives of the Islamic Unity Forum, which has 30 organizations as members, at the Colombo Grand Mosque on 22nd February. On the meeting chaired by the current Leader of the Forum Asseyyid Salim Rifai Maulana, many of the leaders who participated presented various suggestions for the constitution drafting committee.
The Constitution drafting committee led by former judge Abdul Gaffoor includes TK Azoor AAL, Shiraz Noordeen AAL, SMNSA Marzoom Maulana AAL, Senior Research Officer M Ajwadeen, Former Deputy Commissioner General of Inland Revenue Department Ash. NMM Mifly and former Chairman of Sri Lanka Medical Association Dr. Ruwais Haniffa.
Last Sunday (25), the team started the preparation of the constitution following the discussion held between the Constitution Drafting Committee and the founders of the Islamic Unity forum under the chairmanship of former Judge Abdul Gaffoor.
