Wave heights are expected to increase to around 2.0 to 2.5 Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today (15), while mainly dry weather will prevail across the rest of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
A few showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Strong winds of 40-50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills and in the Northern, North Central and North Western provinces, as well as the Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
At sea, a few showers are expected in the waters off the coast from Negombo to Galle via Colombo.
South-westerly winds will prevail, with speeds of 40-50 kmph, increasing up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. In the remaining sea areas around the island, winds of 30-40 kmph may strengthen up to 50 kmph at times.
The sea areas off the coasts from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at timetres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
The Department of Meteorology has advised fishermen and the public to exercise caution due to the strong winds and rough sea conditions.
